The Top 100 Young Self-made Millionaires is out. It is striking that the total assets of the country’s richest ‘self-made’ entrepreneurs under the age of forty have fallen by more than 3 billion euros. This brings it to 5.4 billion euros this year. The lower limit did increase, from 15 million to a record of 17 million euros. Furthermore, there are again few women in the list.
That’s what makes a business magazine Quote, which also annually makes a list of the country’s richest, known in the nineteenth edition of the Top 100 Young Self-made Millionaires. To get on the Quotelist, the entrepreneurs must have earned that capital themselves (and therefore not have had any help from their parents).
The richest self-made millionaires under 40
The sharp decline is mainly because Adriaan Mol, founder of payment processor Mollie, and Robert Vis, co-founder of communications service provider Bird, have passed the age of 39 and are therefore no longer included in the list. Together they were worth an estimated 3.8 billion euros last year, according to Quote.
34-year-old Job van der Voort now stands at a lonely height with an estimated fortune of 600 million euros. Van der Voort is the founder of Remote.com, a company that helps companies hire staff in countries where they are not present themselves. Number two, Ruud Pierik, saw his estimated fortune increase by 125 percent compared to 2023. The founder of online wholesaler and FC Twente main sponsor Elektramat has an estimated fortune of 180 million euros.
The richest celebrity under 40 years old
DJ Martin Garrix is the richest celebrity, according to the business magazine. Although the total assets of the richest self-made millionaires have fallen, Martin Garrix saw assets grow. That is estimated at 50 million, compared to 48 million last year. Just like last year, he takes 29th position. Garrix is not the only well-known DJ with a considerable fortune. Nick van de Wall (Afrojack), Robbert van de Corput (Hardwell) and Sam Renders (Sam Feldt) can also be counted among the hundred young, richest self-made entrepreneurs.
Women on the list
There are six women on the list, compared to four last year. 34-year-old Sharon Hilgers is the woman with the highest ranking (at 37th place) with an estimated fortune of 46 million euros. She is the founder of jewelry brand My Jewelery. The women also include well-known Dutch people: fashion entrepreneur Nikkie Plessen (number 45), model Doutzen Kroes (number 67) and influencer and entrepreneur Negin Mirsalehi, known for cosmetics brand Gisou (number 75).
Newcomers to the list
There are 31 newcomers and among them are according to Quote a striking number of entrepreneurs who use artificial intelligence (AI). Maarten Alblas, Jonas Ruyter and Kai Bakker founded tech company Datasplinter in 2017, which uses AI to automate the work of accountants. All three are in the top 10 of the list with estimated assets of 140 million euros.
