Princess Amalia will stop refunding her expenses as of next year. This is evident from a letter from the princess to Prime Minister Rutte. As long as Amalia studies, she will repay the income part of her compensation. She will complete the second year of her studies at the University of Amsterdam in the coming months.

Since her 18th birthday at the end of 2021, Princess Amalia has been entitled to a statutory benefit, a total of more than 1.8 million euros for this year. In a letter to Prime Minister Rutte, she announced that she would refund this benefit before her 18th birthday. ‘I find that uncomfortable as long as I have little to offer in return and other students are having a much more difficult time, especially in these Corona times.’

Now that she has to incur more and more costs in her position as Princess of Orange, she writes to the Prime Minister that she will no longer refund the part that she can use for expenses (1.5 million) as of January 1, 2025. However, she will continue to do so with the income portion (322,000 euros) until the end of her studies.
