Voice problems
In addition to the emotional aspect, a physical reason also plays a role in her reluctance to talk about her loss. ‘Strong emotions cause me to have voice problems. All those feelings literally close my throat,” Willeke reveals. She has experienced this in recent months due to the death of her daughter and brother. Therefore, she avoids situations that could put her in that emotional state again. The singer has previously experienced voice problems during difficult periods. ‘Then I just can’t do it anymore. It takes a lot of effort to get out of there,” she explains.
Unfortunate fall
As if it wasn’t enough, Willeke recently also fell. ‘I had walked my sweet dog Mickey and wanted to let her back in. So I reached down to undo her collar and, boom, fell flat on my nose.” Fortunately, she was treated well in hospital and is slowly recovering.
Performance
Despite this difficult period, Willeke finds her strength and gratitude again. “My life is not a drama, I am very happy with the path I have been able to walk so far,” she says. Her voice problems are over and she can again do what she loves most: performing. Although she currently focuses on intimate concerts for people in healthcare, Willeke is thoroughly enjoying the stage again. And she will even appear on the big stage again soon.
