So much has already been said about The Hague sensation Goldband: singer Milo Driessen’s cokerel, Karel Gerlach’s relationship with Maan and Boaz Kok, who recently became the first of the three to become a father. Despite all that, a real hype arose around Goldband and it is still primarily supported by their infectious sound that fits perfectly into the charts and sways on its always warm, nostalgic approach. However, new music has been a rarity in recent months for the Hague trio – last solo drop Clutter dates back to almost a year ago – but when the gentlemen release something, it never goes unnoticed. It may sometimes go on the kitschy side; The diverse palette of genres and influences in their pop sound is unique and positively contagious.

In older work we already heard eighties rhythms and synths, disco elements and techno kicks. This time Goldband brings out the trance feeling. This is also the reason why Amsterdam DJ Job Jobse has played the song countless times in his energetic sets. The melodic trance forms the backdrop for the voices of the three gentlemen and, again with glittering synths, manages to strike a sentimental chord. ‘But what really counts? Only you and me, baby’: we said it already, on paper it sounds corny and standard, but in combination with the beats the song hits the euphoric sweet spot again. The dance floor can prepare itself for a lot of people bouncing back and forth or up and down, because ‘banger’ is really a label that we can stick on “You & Me”.

This summer, Goldband’s list of shows is a lot shorter than last year: the Hagenezen will headline Lowlands with a new show in the weekend of August 16-18 and will also be at Pukkelpop.
