Boris Itzkovich Escobar, better known as drag queen Envy Peru, continues to work on the assault case in which he was involved last year. The 35-year-old entertainer says this in the podcast Lightless Lounge.

In July last year, Escobar, known for TV shows like Drag Race Holland and Make Up Your Mind, attacked near Amsterdam Central Station by a group of boys. The entertainer was not dressed as a drag queen at the time.

The police assumed that Escobar had become a victim of LGBTQ+-related violence. “There was good contact with the police, so I really thought: we are going to take steps in this. Something will be done about this,” says Escobar. “You eventually call back for an update. And then you get the message: ‘I am now free of this case, you must now call this information number to find out the status of your case.’ Then I think: yes guys, I understand that there are many serious issues. But what if this continues to happen with violent incidents?”

Escobar has now received a letter from the Public Prosecution Service (OM), asking him what he wants to do with the case. “And I think: that’s your job, right? You know what I want with this case,” says Escobar. Together with the Public Prosecution Service, the artist is now looking at “the next steps”. “Somewhere you think: I want to get on with my life, but I am going to work on this. I don’t want these people to get away with it or make another victim.”

The violent incident took place after Escobar got off a bus together with the perpetrators. The entertainer still takes that bus “very often”, but chooses to no longer sit in the back because of the triggers. “You are reminded of that every time. So I now sit at the very front of the bus, or halfway.”
