In the world of art and collectors, there are those moments that you just can’t ignore. One of those moments took place when entrepreneur Aad Ouborg took his chance and spent a fortune on a drawing made by none other than the young Princess Beatrix.
It almost seems to become a tradition – royal art. From Wilhelmina to Bernhard and of course Beatrix herself, the Oranje family has always had an artistic side. Last night another work was auctioned, and it went better than expected.
The artwork in question, a painting signed by Beatrix, sold for an astonishing €8,500, more than what most expected. For Ouborg, this not only means his 67th Orange artwork, but also a very special addition to his collection.
Unique work of art
Art historian Iris Frederix is enthusiastic: “This is a truly unique work of art.” The drawing, made by the princess when she was only 12 years old, has a special historical and emotional value.
