film about gollumFantasy series returns after twelve years Lord of the rings back on the silver screen. The known Lord of the ringscharacter Gollum will get his own movie in 2026. Andy Serkis returns as the well-known character and is also the director of the project. The announcement of the film is big news for fantasy fans.

Peter Jackson, the director of the original Lord of the ringstrilogy, is producing the film with the working title Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Film studio Warner Bros has not yet announced many details, but stated in a press release that the film is expected in 2026.

Serkis first appeared as Gollum more than twenty years ago in the Lord of the ringstrilogy, based on the books of the same name by JRR Tolkien. Gollum was born as the hobbit Sméagol. He finds the ring and is transformed into the creature Gollum by the influence of the powerful jewel.

Gandalf’s return?

It is not yet clear where The hunt for Gollum is about. In the book The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of the trilogy, there is a chapter in which the characters Aragorn and Gandalf search for the creature together. They do this because they want to know what happened to Gollum after he lost Sauron’s magic ring. Gandalf wants to use his knowledge of the ‘One Ring’ to understand the fate of Middle-Earth (the world of Lord of the Rings, ed.) and determine how they can destroy the Ring. This part of the book ultimately did not make it into the film. It is possible that Peter Jackson now wants to dedicate a separate film to this.

In the Lord of the ringsfilms star Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen as Aragorn and Gandalf respectively. Ian McKellen (84) said a few years ago that he wanted to play Gandalf one more time before his death. Fans are speculating a lot on social media about the possible return of the beloved wizard. Whether Bafta winner Viggo Mortensen (65) is interested in taking on the role of again Strider to crawl is not clear. Nor is it known whether the film will be shot again in New Zealand, like all previous films.

Death of Bernard Hill

The team behind Lord of the Rings suffered a serious blow last week. Bernard Hill, the actor who played King Theoden in the last two parts, died unexpectedly at the age of 79. Actors Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan and Sean Astin – all known as hobbits in the trilogy – reflected on Hill’s death during the Liverpool Comic Con.

“We lost a member of our family this morning,” Sean Astin addressed the crowd. Astin played the role of Sam in the films based on the book series by JRR Tolkien. “He was fearless, he was gruff, he was unyielding.” In addition to Bernard Hill, the well-known Lotr actors Christopher Lee (Saruman) and Ian Holm (Bilbo) also passed away a few years ago.

When is the last movie?

The last Lord of the ringsproject by Peter Jackson Battle of the five armies (2014), the third and final part of the Hobbit-trilogy. This leaves a twelve-year gap between that film and this upcoming project.

The second season of the Amazon series will be released later this year Rings of powera prequel series to Lord of the rings. The Warner Bros team is not involved in this project.
