Seven acts from all over Drenthe have been invited to participate in Popsport. This development process for acts who want to take serious steps in their musical career offers the opportunity for these acts to show themselves on a larger stage.
The participants are singer-songwriters Meeri (Assen), Kiki and Nik (both from Borger), Rowan (Emmer-Compascuum), the duo Family Suicide (Emmen) and the bands BLOOM (Drouwen/Hoogeveen) and Free Attix (Shafts). Popsport Drenthe kicked off with a meeting between the participants and their personal coaches, who will guide the participants through the process.
In April, all participants follow workshops to further develop themselves artistically, after which they can show themselves during a short performance during the Drenthe Liberation Festival on May 5. On June 29, Popsport Drenthe will conclude with a performance at Podium34 in Borger. Finally, one of the participants is chosen to participate in the national process.
More workshops, a music recording and a video clip will follow in this national process. Last year was an indie/rock act Happenstance from Assen, the Drenthe representative in the national program. In 2022 the band did Bliss from Emmen participates in the national edition.
