On Thursday, the Public Prosecution Service demanded an unconditional prison sentence of four years against the husband of food blogger Rens Kroes on appeal. Sid S. is said to have raped a woman in 2016.

S. was sentenced by the court in 2019 to a prison term of two years for rape, but appealed. The sentence is now two years higher. The public prosecutor was not pleased with the “arrogant attitude” of S., who did not have a lawyer with him and repeatedly refused to respond to questions.

Kroes’ husband allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat in Amsterdam on September 9, 2016 and forced her to have sex with him. He also allegedly threatened her with death.

The court in Amsterdam has remanded S. in custody, pending the verdict on April 11. The Public Prosecution Service wanted S. to be captured because he was considered a flight risk. The man has previously indicated that he wants to live in Ivory Coast. That country does not have a legal assistance treaty with the Netherlands and therefore does not have to cooperate in the criminal case.

The appeal was actually due in March last year, but was postponed because the defense had asked to hear witnesses. The appeal was then supposed to be filed in December last year, but the death of S.’s father shortly before the hearing was the reason for postponement.

S. and Doutzen Kroes’ sister have been together for about sixteen years. They had a daughter together at the end of 2020.
