Although it will take another six months before Adrz has actually completely left the clinic in Zierikzee, the decision is now final, Adrz said. However, the hospital will be in discussions with the municipality and general practitioners in the coming months to see whether there are options for retaining some outpatient clinics and supporting facilities at Schouwen-Duiveland.
“For years, behind the scenes, we have been trying with all our might to maintain our care at Schouwen-Duiveland. We still do that,” says De Kort. “We are looking with the municipality and general practitioners at new, future-oriented ways to keep specialist medical care accessible at Schouwen-Duiveland.”
He sees a role for his hospital, even after the departure of the Adrz from the Victoria Clinic. “How can we actively collaborate with general practitioners and other chain partners? And that is about accessibility in the broadest sense of the word: travel and digitalization.”
The care at the other two locations, Goes and Vlissingen, also needs to change. “Anyone who has to come from far away, whether they are residents of Schouwen-Duiveland or Walcheren, for example, must be able to count on the fact that every visit is really necessary. This means: more efficiency and fewer unnecessary hospital visits.”
In addition, digitalization in healthcare also plays an important role. For example, Adrz invests in expanding home monitoring, makes more and more use of telephone consultations and video calling and seeks cooperation with general practitioners in the consultation consultation. Medical specialists coordinate digitally with general practitioners and unnecessary visits to the hospital are avoided.
