Choir and orchestra of the Groninger Mozart Ensemble will perform young music by Beethoven and Puccini on April 19 and 21 under the direction of Joël Smits.

The program includes Beethoven’s First Symphony and Giacomo Puccini’s Preludio Sinfonico and Messa di Gloria. Both composers made a leap from these early works to their major works: Puccini with his many famous operas and Beethoven with his symphonies, piano music and many other well-known works. During the concerts you can hear how innovative both composers were early in their careers.

The concerts are Friday, April 19 in the Ontmoetingskerk in Haren (starting at 8:15 p.m.) and Sunday, April 21 in Op de Helte in Roden (starting at 3 p.m.). Tickets are available at Boomker bookstore in Haren, Riemer bookstore in Groningen and Daan Nijman bookstore in Roden, via the website www.groningermozartensemble.nl and at the door. In advance, a ticket costs 19 euros, for children up to 18 years 12.50. A ticket costs €22.50 at the door.

The Groninger Mozart Ensemble consists of an amateur symphony orchestra and choir. Next year it will celebrate its 50th anniversary. At full strength, the Groninger Mozart Ensemble consists of a symphony orchestra of approximately 50 musicians and approximately 60 choir members. The repertoire consists not only of music by Mozart, but also that of his contemporaries and later composers.
