The direct ICE between Amsterdam and Basel will disappear after July 15 and will not return in 2025 and 2026. After many decades, the last day train between the Netherlands and Switzerland will be abolished and travelers will more likely choose to travel by plane or car. However, a sleeper train (the Nightjet) will continue to run on this route.

From Schiphol, KLM flies to Basel four times a day and easyJet flies up to three times a day.

Timetable is becoming too tight
The ICE timetable to Basel, which runs daily, is already very tight. Due to long-term works, first between Frankfurt and Mannheim and later between Arnhem and Duisburg, it will no longer be possible to run the train from July 16.

But even after the work, the train will not return for the time being, the SBB (the Swiss railways) has confirmed to Treinreizen.nl. As a result, ICE trains from the Netherlands will from now on not go further than Frankfurt.

It is possible that some of the ICEs will continue to Munich in the future. This is possible now that new ICE 3neo equipment will be available from the summer, many more train sets of which are suitable for Dutch rail. This is still being considered.

After July 15, travelers can only travel to Zurich by night train without changing trains. However, the new railway company GoVolta is working on plans for a new, slower day train to Basel. However, those plans are not yet final.
