Approach Ring Zuid and Groningen Bereikbaar call on traffic in the city of Groningen to adhere to the traffic rules during the work of Operation Ring Zuid.

Motorists are dealing with traffic congestion and delays during Operation Ring Zuid in the city of Groningen. “We see that, because we are working next to the barriers,” says Approach Ring Zuid. “We also hear it from our neighbors and people who visit us. But we also increasingly hear that some motorists ignore the traffic rules in their haste. Driving too fast, driving through red lights, driving on the cycle path. That leads to dangerous situations.”

Approach Ring Zuid and Groningen Bereikbaar therefore call on everyone: ‘leave on time, keep your patience and adhere to the traffic rules’.

The call remains for everyone to leave their car at home whenever possible. Work from home, plan your meetings online, park your car at a P+R and travel by public transport and bicycle.

“By doing so you help yourself, the safety of your fellow road users, the city of Groningen and us as workers on the ring road,” reports Aanpak Ring Zuid.

If we manage to keep a cool head during these last few months, we can continue working and return the ring to Groningen on September 2.”

Tips

Both organizations provide tips to take possible delays into account. Motorists who really use their car have to take into account that the road is busy and that you will encounter barriers that you did not expect.

  • The advice is to leave on time and take extra travel time into account. This can take up to fifteen minutes. “If you leave home earlier, you will at least arrive at your destination on time – and without stress.”
  • Give space to the emergency services, because in emergencies every second counts for ambulances, fire engines and police. If they drive with the sirens on, give them plenty of space.
  • Keep intersections clear and enter an intersection if you are sure you can cross. For example, there is no traffic halfway through the intersection, blocking traffic from other directions. The emergency services are also affected by the blocked intersections. “Look ahead and stop in time.”
  • Join us when you are stuck in a traffic jam and do not leave any big gaps, so that the traffic jam does not become longer than necessary. Good connections can also make the difference as to whether a car behind you can or must wait straight to an exit.
  • Zip as late as possible if you are joining another strip. Continue as far as possible. “It may feel a bit uncomfortable, but this is how the road is best used.”
  • Keep the bus lanes clear, even when there are long queues, so that the buses are not held up. This includes the travelers who took the bus so as not to make an unnecessary contribution to traffic jams.
  • Choose Rondje Ring. The diversion route via the ring road is usually the fastest route. The ring road is better suited to the increase in traffic. Traffic flows well there. Moreover, no unnecessary nuisance will be caused in the neighborhoods.
