THOLEN – Tholen will immediately receive more asylum seekers. The municipality is thus responding to the cabinet’s emergency call. The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) currently does not have enough places available to give all asylum seekers ‘bed, bath and bread’.

From December 1, 2022, the municipality of Tholen will receive a maximum of 50 asylum seekers. This is a temporary emergency crisis shelter in the old building of the Eben-Haëzerschool on the Molenvlietsedijk. The number of residents will now be increased from 50 to 56 asylum seekers by structurally using empty beds and previously unused space in the building. The cabinet had asked in an emergency appeal to create more places.

Crisis emergency shelter extended

By quickly realizing these additional shelters, the municipality of Tholen is once again complying with the cabinet’s emergency call. Previously, the municipality’s plan was to let the asylum seekers stay in the building until February of this year, but the crisis emergency shelter was already extended. The temporary crisis emergency shelter will now remain open as long as necessary, according to a spokesperson for the municipality. So no end date has been set for the shelter.
