Forest bathing in the Noordlaarderbos: Shinrin yoku

With the Forest Bathing excursion in the Noordlaarderbos you can make… get acquainted with shinrin yoku in an accessible way, the art of forest bathing, originating from Japan. Follow your nose for something that smells floral or earthy or just interesting. Take a deep breath and ‘taste’ the fresh air. Together with the ranger you walk a route of approximately two to three kilometers through the forest and stop at a number of special places. With a few short exercises you can experience the forest with all your senses.

The walk starts at the Nivonhuis, parking is available at the parking lot of the ice rink in Noordlaren. From here it is about a 10-minute walk to the starting location.

Vegetable cooking workshop

Cooking without animal ingredients can be a challenge. This doesn’t have to be the case anymore a workshop at Ruimte de Wereld in Vries. On Friday, May 3, you will receive an explanation of the basic principles and learn alternatives to dairy and eggs. You will learn how to make your own meat substitutes, main courses, pastries and soup.

The workshop is given by Yvonne Westerhof-de Leeuw, self-sufficient life trainer and ends with a tasting. You will receive the recipes afterwards.

Pet goat lambs and jump on the bouncy castle

Lovers of rural charm and connoisseurs of regional products can indulge themselves in Sint Annen. Come visit us on Saturday, May 4 Experience farm De Zes Grazen for the Lamb Sawing Day. Little ones enjoy goat lambs that can be petted and can have fun on a bouncy castle or in the playground. It is also a day full of fun for parents. Visit the Snuffelschuur to browse through vintage and nice second-hand products.

There are also various stands with attractive regional products and all kinds of gadgets. Want to relax? Sit down on the indoor terrace with a cup of coffee or tea, or enjoy delicious burgers on the outdoor terrace. There is also the opening of a small wind turbine with a kite festival, which is organized by the “Fryske Draeken” team.

May holiday in the University Museum

During the May holidays, the museum properly reorganized the craft and experiment corner, with an archeology corner this time. In the young inventors craft corner you can make a paper stained glass animal, fold origami or conduct real experiments.

There will also be an exciting plasma ball during the holidays where you can see beautiful flashes of lightning appear when you touch them with your fingers. Or put on your lab coat and come and make bath salts in the experiment corner, with beautiful colors and a nice scent. There is plenty to do in the museum. The activities can be enjoyed daily in Stad between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. until Thursday.

Seasonal walk through a forest full of animals

Staatsbosbeheer takes the whole family on a seasonal walk on Sunday. The educational excursion is led by a guide, who tells about the origins of Boswachterij Gieten-Borger, about the varied forest and the many species of animals that live here.

In April it is clearly noticeable that spring is gaining more traction. With the mild weather, birds begin to look for nesting materials. Early bloomers are also starting to show their colours. And slowly we see trees here and there slowly turning green. The walk starts at the Boomkroonpad Outdoor Center in Drouwen.

Learn all about corals

You can learn more about corals in the Miramar Sea Museum in Vledder on Wednesday, May 1. During the coral afternoon you will make your own coral from clay and you can test your knowledge of corals with an educational quiz. For example, did you know that corals are actually animals?

This children’s activity is supervised by Tanja Velthove from Seacleaners-int. Entry times for the activity are 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Registration is recommended.

Lamb Days Nienoord

Are you also coming to a maternity visit in Nienoord Family Park in Leek? Very sweet lambs and goats have been born, which are of course worth a rusk with mice. Maybe you know a very nice name for the newborn animals. You can come up with a nice name on the spot.
