The auction of the first box of meschol in Urk yielded 41,250 euros on Monday morning. An anonymous donor has supplemented the amount to 45,000 euros. The money goes to the hematology department of the University Medical Center in Groningen (UMCG).

Auctioning the first box of plaice is a tradition in Urk. The auction raises money for a charity that is different every year. Last year, 72,000 euros were raised for the ALS Foundation.

American way
The box of chickadee was supplied by the UK 158. This year, 17 companies participated in the auction, which is being held in the American way. The companies can always supplement the amount with smaller amounts. All amounts offered by the companies will ultimately be donated.

Doctor van Meerten provided an explanation of the auction. He works in the hematology department of the UMCG. The doctor deals with abnormalities in the blood, bone marrow or lymph nodes of patients.

The box of chickpeas went to the Talma Haven care center in Urk. According to the organization of the auction, the elderly will ‘enjoy a delicious plaice’ tonight.
