On May 3, a new government will finally be sworn in on St. Martin, governor of the island Ajamu Baly announces. An agreement had been in place for more than three months.

The elections on Sint Maarten were held on January 11. 48 hours later, the parties URSM, PFP, DP and NOW concluded a cooperation agreement.

The fact that it took more than three months before the government could be sworn in is due to the screening procedure for ministers. That took longer than usual. It is not known why the screening took so long. The political history of Sint Maarten has several corruption scandals.

Formateur and future Prime Minister Luc Mercelina thanks the people of Sint Maarten for their patience. Of the seven intended ministers, only five can still be sworn in. The minister plenipotentiary and her deputy, who represent Sint Maarten in the Netherlands and Europe, can also be sworn in.

The new government consists of parties that were all in opposition during the previous government cycle. The social democratic party National Alliance remained the largest party in the elections, but is not part of the new government.
