Pro-Palestine demonstrators block Piet Heinkade – AT5

A group of pro-Palestine demonstrators have blocked the Piet Heinkade since 10:50 am. The demonstrators have just sat down on the road. It was known in advance that the group would hold a protest, but a location was unknown.

The demonstrators are standing near the Jan Schaefer Bridge. Traffic between the Piet Hein tunnel and the Jan Schaefer Bridge is at a standstill.

In addition to traffic jams, the blockage also causes irritation for taxi drivers, among others. Coaches with King’s Day celebrants are also unable to continue.

Officers are present, but have not yet intervened. This is because it is a demonstration that falls under the right to demonstrate, says a police spokesperson. The triangle (mayor, police chief and chief public prosecutor) must decide whether the demonstration will be dissolved.
