Catering entrepreneur Hendrik Karabagias will no longer install a large screen in front of his Hanze hotel on Rodetorenplein in Zwolle. Cause: Videma’s very expensive event license. “It is no longer profitable, this folk festival has been ruined.”

The news about the event license hit the doorsteps of countless catering bosses in recent weeks and caused a lot of irritation. Sender: Stichting Videma, manager of the broadcasting rights. It turned out to be an additional television tax for broadcasting European Championship matches outdoors (on large terraces and squares), which is on top of the event license for which entrepreneurs already pay to Videma annually.

For entrepreneurs who only want to install a screen on their own terrace, aimed at their own visitors, the café license that entrepreneurs often already have is sufficient in many cases. Videma and Koninklijke Horeca Nederland clarified this in recent days.

But do you want to use a few extra square meters than the license has been issued for, or are you going for a huge terrace or full square? Then you still have to pay a lot extra – this would also apply, for example, to the popular Oranjeplein in Zwolle, even after what Videma and KHN later clarified. The license for something like a terrace is slightly different than for an event location.
