License plate guru Jasper Verweij of Kenteken.tv enjoys little more than extensively analyzing the registration data of the Dutch vehicle fleet. What seems? Although more than 500,000 electric cars have been cumulatively registered in the Netherlands over the years, today was the first time that 500,000 fully electric cars have been registered in the Netherlands. After all, EVs have also been exported over the years, around 18,000 of them. If we do not count these, then on May 3 there were exactly 500,203 electric cars in the Netherlands with an active registration.
How is that fleet of more than half a million electric cars composed? Largely made up of Teslas! At the time of writing, there are 83,955 Teslas registered in our country. This means that almost 17 percent of the Dutch EV fleet is a Tesla. So more than one in six. Also interesting: there are more than 54,000 electric Volkswagens driving around in the Netherlands, which means that more than one in ten of all EVs in our country carry a Volkswagen badge in their snout. Peugeot and Audi are very close together, as are BMW and Skoda.

Tesla is not only by far the brand with the most electric cars registered in the Netherlands, it is also the brand with the most registered electric cars in the Netherlands. You feel it coming: it’s the Tesla Model 3. There are no fewer than 49,060 Tesla Model 3s registered in the Netherlands. This means that almost 10 percent of all electric cars in our country are Tesla Model 3s. It is possible that many Models 3 will soon disappear from the Netherlands. After all, many lease contracts are expiring this year.
The Kia Niro Electric is in second place with more than 27,000 registrations. This means that about 5.5 percent of all EVs in the Netherlands are Niro. The currently unavailable Tesla Model Y is in third place with 25,730 registrations. An important note here: the Volkswagen ID3 is in sixth place, the ID4 in ninth place. The ID3 and ID4 are registered with various trade names in the RDW data. If these are added together per model, the ID3 and ID4 could end up higher in the statistics. According to our own data, a total of 18,703 ID3s and 13,926 ID4s have been registered. These are figures that may include exported copies. It is therefore not obvious that the ID3 and ID4 – if all trade names were lumped together – would find a place in the Top 10. A Rimac Nevera with a list price of €2,824,140 is the most expensive EV correctly registered in our country. There also seems to be an Audi e-tron driving around with a list price of €6,238,499, according to the RDW. A mistake, of course. And disastrous for your addition, by the way…

Export
Tesla is also the brand from which the most EVs have been exported. In total, more than 5,500 Teslas have already been shipped abroad. This means that about 31 percent of all electric cars ever exported from the Netherlands are Teslas. Jaguar is in second place, of which 1,797 i-Paces have already left our country.
