Some players picked the torches off the ground and threw them back into the fanatic supporters’ box. It led to a lot of commotion in the Stade de l’Aube, home of Troyes AC. That club was promoted to the highest level in 2020, but was relegated from Ligue 1 last season. A win over Valenciennes was needed on Friday evening to ensure survival in Ligue 2. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Fans of the French club threw fireworks on the field just before the final whistle and verbally lashed out at the City Football Group, which has owned Troyes since 2020. After the players threw back the torches, the match was stopped prematurely.
