On May 14, it will be the turn of Jaap Kwadijk, climate adaptation expert at Deltares, to give the last lecture in the series that the Land Art Delft Foundation has organized in combination with the theme year ‘Water’.

Water comes to the Netherlands from the front via the sea, from the back via the rivers, from below via groundwater and from above via rain. This lecture is about how that natural water system actually works and how quickly and to what extent this changes with a changing climate and rising sea levels. Located low at the mouth of the rivers Maas, Rhine, Scheldt and Eem, most of our fresh water comes from the surrounding countries. We also import clothing, food and animal feed. We also indirectly use a lot of water elsewhere in the world. That is why climate change is not only important here, but the climate elsewhere is also important for the Netherlands.
