A 24-year-old man from Nijmegen who was arrested on Saturday shortly after the moment of silence has been released again. This means that all five people arrested around the National Remembrance Day on Dam Square are free again.
Four people were arrested on Saturday evening during the ceremony on Amsterdam’s Dam Square. Shortly before the moment of silence at 8 p.m., a 53-year-old man was arrested. He wanted to unfurl a banner.
Moments later, a man and a woman of Ugandan nationality were arrested. The pair and the 53-year-old man belong to a group of demonstrators who, just like last year during Remembrance Day, draw attention to the political situation in Uganda. According to the police, the two minutes were not disrupted by the demonstration.
A 24-year-old man from Nijmegen was arrested shortly after the moment of silence. The police had received a report that he had said via a TikTok livestream that he wanted to disrupt order on Dam Square.
Earlier in the day, the police arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly posting inflammatory texts on social media. It was announced on Saturday evening that he had been released.
