The Export Society Limburg emerged from the Limburg Chambers of Commerce and aimed to support exporting companies with concrete advice and networks. The ESL grew into a thriving and active club with approximately 150 members at its peak. In 2006, the board, with the support of the Province of Limburg and several sponsors, organized the Export Award Limburg for the first time, where nominated Limburg companies competed for the Limburg Export Award. The election grew into an annual event with renowned winners such as Adams, Linssen, Kusters, Nunhems and Neptunus. The 15th and final edition was held in 2022, won by Vekoma.

The corona pandemic ultimately proved fatal for the ESL. The number of members fell sharply, the award could not be presented three times and attempts to make a new start came to nothing last year, despite positive discussions with LIOF and the Province of Limburg.

This week the sponsors and members will receive a letter about the dissolution, signed by chairman Frank Nelissen and secretary Ardy Assink, who was the great animator behind the ESL for more than 20 years.
