Good news for most residents of the old Den Bosch working-class district De Muntel with solar panels on the roof. The municipality of Den Bosch still wants to legalize the panels in the district. The residents of fifteen houses had the panels installed one to two years ago through landlord BrabantWonen, but it later turned out that this was not allowed at all.
The municipality wanted the panels to be removed because the district is a ‘nationally protected cityscape’. This means that the municipality wants to preserve the original appearance of the neighborhood.
And this also applies to the 1980s houses in Busschietersstraat and Rietpolderplein. In those two streets, more than 140 solar panels are spread over the roofs of fifteen houses.
At the beginning of April, the residents suddenly received a letter from the landlord stating that the panels were illegal and that they therefore had to be removed. The residents were very disappointed, because their energy bills would then increase significantly.
Still possible
Now it seems that some things are possible again, according to a response letter from the Municipal Executive of Den Bosch to questions posed by various political parties. The municipality wants to legalize the panels.
“We understand that this situation is very annoying for residents, and we will therefore look very seriously at legalizing these solar panels in the short term,” the municipality writes.
The municipality is already in consultation with BrabantWonen about a ‘customized approach’ for this. “For the longer term, we as a council will examine the policy rules,” the council concludes in the letter.
According to regional newspaper Brabants Dagblad, one house is exempt from legalization. The six panels on a municipal monument on Rietpolderplein must be removed.
