Do you want to grow native plants, shrubs and trees on your property that attract insects and birds? On May 25, various inspiring yards will be open to visitors during the Open Yard Day. Get inspiration from biodiversity ambassadors in Epe, Hattem, Heerde and Oldebroek.
Stichting Landschapsbeheer Gelderland organizes the Open Yard Day together with the Gelderland biodiversity ambassadors. Each ambassador has his or her own specializations to learn about. From standard fruit and pools to bird groves, insect hotels, flower meadows and much more. In more than twenty municipalities in Gelderland, ambassadors open their yards to visitors. Visitors can visit Epe, Hattem, Heerde and Oldebroek, among others.
Epe and Hattem
In Epe you get a look at the vegetable garden, nursery and orchards of Pieter Swinkels and Erwin Reinhard. Here you can attend lectures on making your yard biodiverse, while children paint birdhouses. In Hattem you visit the forest and orchard of the Fikse family and receive information about their volunteer group. Registration is required for this.
Heerde and Oldebroek
In Heerde you can take a look at Caroline van de Burgt’s food forest. There is also a basket maker here and you can have a chat with the climate mayor. Here too you must register for a visit. In Oldebroek you will receive information about farm birds and standard fruit and a beekeeper will talk about bees with Erik and Jennie Schuiling.
