This weekend, Joost Klein can score the first Eurovision Song Contest hit with his Europapa, which will remain at number 1 in the Dutch Top 40 for five weeks.

The success of a Eurovision Song Contest hit at number 1 is usually short-lived. No song from the festival has ever been in first place for more than four weeks. Joost Klein is the first to have a serious chance of doing so. Europapa is on course to score a fifth week at number 1. Benson Boone is heading for a second week at number 2, after which the battle for place 3 seems to be between Beyoncé and Cyril. Beyoncé is benefiting from her latest album Cowboy Carter. She has been in fourth place for the past two weeks, but a return of Texas Hold ’em to the top 3 is a possibility. Stumblin’ In is also on course for third place. Cyril continues to grow with his remake of Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman’s hit. In 1979, that hit was at number 3 for two weeks.

Last week, Rondé’s Undecided dropped for the first time after 7 weeks of gains. The Utrecht band was clearly passed over by the hits of Bankzitters, Dasha and Ariana Grande. The question is whether that decline will continue this week. Because Undecided is developing positively on the radio this week and the streaming figures are also showing a plus at the start of the week. My Blood by Di-Rect did not get off the ground well in the first Top 40 weeks. The band from The Hague was at number 33 for three weeks, but then managed to rise to place 25. My Blood stayed there last week, but the stretch for that track doesn’t seem to be over yet. It is somewhat difficult to estimate the fastest riser for next week. None of the latest Top 40 hits show major steps forward. As a result, Scared To Start by Michael Marcagi, new last week at number 39, seems to be able to make the most profit.

New Top 40 hits are not clearly visible this week. I Like The Way You Kiss Me (by Artemas) and Brommers Kieken (by Boer Harm) are now strong hits in streaming and on social media, but still have to prove themselves in airplay. If both hits succeed even slightly, a place in the Top 40 is also in prospect next weekend. Zoet Zout Zuur by Robert van Hemert also remains a contender with some extra relevant attention on the radio. Slightly more distant are Belong Together (by Mark Ambor), Slow It Down (by Benson Boone) and Too Sweet (by Hozier). The latter has had more airplay in recent days and may just reach the Top 40. Mark Ambor and Benson Boone are getting in their way on the radio with their hits Good To Be and Beautiful Things.

Outside Of Love, the latest from Becky Hill, takes the Alarm disc on Qmusic this week. Despite those spins on the radio, British indoor streaming is not yet off to a very good start and Hill will appear in the Tipparade next week.

From Tuesday to Thursday, just after 6 p.m. on Qmusic, you will hear how the list takes shape in the Top 40 Update by Domien Verschuuren. You will hear all the details about the new list on Friday afternoon from 2 p.m.
