Heavy fireworks set off in train compartment at Schagen station: ‘Too idiotic for words’
--

Two travelers in a sprinter between Amsterdam and Den Helder suffered hearing damage last night due to an explosion in the compartment in which they were sitting. This happened around 2:15 am near Schagen station. The police are investigating the involvement of an 18-year-old young man from the municipality of Schagen, who himself injured his hand.

Although the police are investigating the role of the 18-year-old, no one has yet been identified as a suspect and no suspects have yet been arrested. However, a police spokesman said that it is assumed that the fireworks were set off deliberately.

The travelers with hearing damage have not yet filed a report. The NS is currently considering doing so. It is not yet known what kind of heavy fireworks are involved. “We are currently still investigating, including the role of the 18-year-old man from the municipality of Schagen.”

‘Big riddle’

A spokesman for the NS calls the action ‘too idiotic for words’. “Why anyone gets this is a big mystery to us.” It is unknown how many passengers were in the compartment at the time of the explosion.

The police are calling on eyewitnesses who have not yet issued a statement, or people who filmed the incident, to come forward.
