Arsenal defeated Chelsea, the disappointing number nine in the competition, in the battle for the English national title on Tuesday evening. The Premier League leaders won 5-0 at home.
Number two Liverpool will visit Everton on Wednesday evening and will be level with Arsenal if they win. The goal difference is currently in favor of the London team.
Quick opening goal
It quickly happened in the Emirates Stadium. Leandro Trossard shot the ball past goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in the fourth minute. The Serbian goalkeeper still touched the ball, which passed through the small space between him and the post, but that was not enough to prevent a goal.
Arsenal had the best of the game, but Chelsea also had some big chances, especially in the first half. Nicolas Jackson raced past everyone on the left flank, passed the ball and saw the ball end up on the post via the leg of Arsenal defender Gabriel.
Marc Cucurella also got into a promising position, but saw his shot blocked. On the rebound, Enzo Fernández pushed the ball wide.
