Jan Koopman from Noordwolde and his son Martijn came home from a rude awakening on Tuesday evening. They were in the audience when Youp van ‘t Hek had to end his performance in the Royal Theater Carré Amsterdam early.

The comedian had previously briefly stopped his show several times because he suffered from blackouts.

Slow

According to Jan Koopman, things quickly went wrong during the performance. “His story no longer made sense, it was all so slow, if not Youp. Normally it’s a cascade of words and jokes. He took texts on paper and allowed himself to be prompted. He also jerked his leg. I fear there is more to it. Every time he tried again, he received a round of applause from the audience. But it was so bad.”

Ticket for next show

It concerned the performance ‘The Last Round!’. According to a statement to the audience, the comedian has not been feeling well all day. Visitors receive a ticket for the next show. “We are generously compensated,” an employee reported. Through a new performance. But when?

The 70-year-old Van ‘t Hek will only be in Carré until the end of May, where he will play the last show of his more than fifty-year career.

Mixed feelings

Koopman was in Amsterdam thanks to his son. As a surprise, he had arranged the tickets for this last theater tour. “I have mixed feelings after last night. We went out together in Amsterdam and had a nice meal. But this is really a shame.”

Van ‘t Hek’s management has not responded substantively to the incident or the comedian’s health.
