Feyenoord must compensate for the departure of Arne Slot with the arrival of Albert Stuivenberg, says Henk van Stee at RTV Rijnmond. The Rotterdam team will soon announce Slot’s departure to Liverpool, which means that Dennis te Kloese has already drawn up a list of possible candidates to succeed Slot.

Alex Pastoor, Pascal Jansen, Joseph Oosting and Graham Potter have been linked in recent days with the possible job as head coach at Feyenoord. The Rotterdam team has undergone enormous development under Slot’s leadership in the last three years, making it essential that Slot’s successor can at least take the club further.

Van Stee believes that the club would be wise to appoint a Dutch trainer: “It would have been great for the Feyenoord club if Robin van Persie had stayed, but he does not choose that.” Van Persie will start as Kees van Wonderen’s successor at sc Heerenveen. According to the former technical director of Zenit St. Petersburg, the former international has the talent to one day manage a big club like Feyenoord.

Van Persie is not the only name that comes to Van Stee’s mind. Stuivenberg’s name is also an option, according to the 62-year-old Rotterdam resident: “You also have former Feyenoord players who have done great internationally, such as Albert Stuivenberg at Arsenal and Manchester United.” Van Stee knows that Stuivenberg is doing excellently at Arsenal, where he is currently Mikel Arteta’s right-hand man.

Stuivenberg previously stood on his own two feet as head coach at KRC Genk and did a decent job there, according to Van Stee: “I know from experience that his field training is great and he has gained experience in the field of coaching in Belgium.” An additional advantage to the possible arrival of Stuivenberg to Feyenoord is his past at the Rotterdam South club. The former trainer of the Netherlands Under 17 was active in Feyenoord’s youth academy for twelve years between 1991 and 2003. Stuivenberg also worked under Louis van Gaal as an assistant coach at Manchester United between 2014 and 2016.
