Birthday Van Gerwen fails in Premier League semi-finals, Littler wins match round | Darts

--

Michael van Gerwen failed to reach the final of the thirteenth Premier League evening on Thursday. The Brabander lost 2-6 to Rob Cross in the semi-final. Luke Littler won the match in Liverpool.

Van Gerwen, who celebrates his 35th birthday on Thursday, started the match poorly and was immediately broken. ‘Mighty Mike’ fought back to 2-2, but did not win another leg after that.

With a nice finish of 121, Cross reached 5-2 and decided the match by throwing out 82. Van Gerwen achieved a poor average of 90.00 per three arrows and only used two of his eighteen chances for a double.

Earlier in the evening, Van Gerwen also had a difficult time with Peter Wright, but he won that match. The three-time world champion turned a 1-3 deficit into a 6-3 victory.

Cross lost 2-6 to Littler in the final later that evening. Seventeen-year-old Littler survived five more match darts against Nathan Aspinall in the semi-final and won 6-5.

Last week, Van Gerwen lost in the first round at the Premier League evening in Rotterdam. The match round in Ahoy was won by Aspinall.
