Ralf Rangnick has decided not to accept Bayern Munich’s offer to succeed coach Thomas Tuchel. The 65-year-old coach instead announces that he will remain as national coach of Austria after the European Championship in Germany, the country with which he will compete against the Dutch national team in the group stage.

Bayern has been looking for a successor to Tuchel for some time, who will leave at the end of the season even if the Champions League is won. At first, the German record champion thought of former player Xabi Alonso. However, he announced that he would stay with his current club Bayer Leverkusen, which he made German champions for the first time in club history. This also applied to former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, who was in the picture for a return but chose to remain Germany coach.

After that, Rangnick was the obvious favorite to succeed Tuchel. However, the former coach of Schalke 04, RB Leipzig and Manchester United, among others, announces on the website of the Austrian Football Association that he will remain in his current position after the European Championship. “I am the national coach of Austria with all my heart,” the selector said. “I am really enjoying this job and am determined to continue on this path with success.”

Der Rekordmeister so fishes behind the net. “I would like to expressly emphasize that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals,” Rangnick explains. “Our full concentration is on the European Championship. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible,” the trainer concludes. Austria opens the European Championship on June 17, when France is the first opponent in the group. Four days later, Rangnick will take on Poland in the second group match, concluding with the match against the Dutch team on June 25.
