Marianne Vos booked her second stage victory in the Vuelta Feminina on Saturday. There were few shifts in the rankings, meaning Demi Vollering will start the final stage on Sunday in the leader’s jersey.
Initially, the penultimate stage seemed like a prey for the attackers, but it eventually turned into a sprint. Vos was by far the strongest in this regard. For the 36-year-old Vos, it was her second stage victory in this edition of the Vuelta.
Vos previously won the third stage. Then she was already in a class of her own in the sprint in the streets of Teruel. She repeated that on Saturday in Sigüenza. The Brabant rider put the competition to shame with an explosive acceleration.
The American Kristen Faulkner and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini finished behind Vos. Vollering crossed the line in fourth just behind them. She starts the tough final stage on Sunday with a 52 second lead over Longo Borghini.
The last stage has a length of 89 kilometers and has two first category climbs. Vollering hopes to secure her first overall victory in the Vuelta. Last year she came second behind compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten.
