The three people who were arrested on Saturday during the National Remembrance Day on Dam Square are free again. Lawyer Willem Jebbink said that the three were “released late on Saturday evening”.

The three were arrested on Saturday at the start of the moment of silence at 8 p.m. They wanted to draw attention to the political situation in Uganda.

A 53-year-old man from Amstelveen was arrested when he wanted to unfold a banner. Shortly afterwards, two more people were arrested, a man and a woman, both of Ugandan nationality.

According to the police, the two minutes of silence were not disturbed by the demonstration. Jebbink states that the man and woman of Ugandan nationality “have not done anything culpable at all”.

Shortly after the moment of silence, a 24-year-old man from Nijmegen was arrested on Dam Square. The police had received a report that the man allegedly said he wanted to disrupt order on the Amsterdam square via a TikTok livestream. It is unclear whether he is still in custody.

Earlier on Saturday, the police arrested a 41-year-old man for inflammatory texts he had posted on social media about the commemoration on Dam Square. It is also unclear whether he is still in custody.
