Online store Zalando sold 3.3 billion euros worth of clothing and shoes in the first quarter of 2023. That is 1.3 percent more than a year earlier. In the last three quarters of 2023, sales actually dropped slightly.

The fact that sales last year were somewhat disappointing was because consumers in Europe saw their purchasing power decrease. But now the leak appears to be over.

Zalando sells clothing and shoes itself, but also offers other retailers a platform. Zalando’s own turnover fell by 0.6 percent at the beginning of this year to more than 2.2 billion euros. Nevertheless, the retail company expects better times to come.

This year, sales will grow again, financial director Sandra Dembeck announced in a statement. Zalando has also adjusted its strategy for this. The company wants to “focus more on selling quality brands.” The company believes that young consumers are willing to pay extra for clothing that lasts longer than the so-called fast fashion.
