Nintendo is working on a mini-game collection of classic NES games | Tweakers

--

Nintendo has announced the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game. This Nintendo Switch game consists of several mini-games set in classic NES games, such as Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda.

In the game, players can play approximately 150 mini-games spread across thirteen NES games. Each mini-game requires players to complete short quests, such as ‘Play the first level of Super Mario Bros. off’ or ‘Defeat all enemies on the screen The Legend of Zelda‘. The aim is to complete these challenges as quickly as possible.

The game can be played alone, but a multiplayer mode is also added. This allows up to eight players to complete the same challenge simultaneously to compete for the best time. Every week, five mini-games are selected for the weekly challenges. The times achieved by all players are included in a global ranking, with the aim being to set the fastest time within that week.

The game will be released on July 18 on Nintendo eShop, the online store for the Nintendo Switch. This digital version of the game costs 30 euros. A physical Deluxe Edition will also be available on the same date. Included is a gold NES replica cartridge celebrating the original Nintendo World Championships game. It was used in 1990 during the gaming tournament of the same name and is seen as the holy grail among NES collectors. The Deluxe Edition also includes some illustration cards based on the thirteen games. That edition costs 60 euros.

Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System in the early 1980s. It was the manufacturer’s first game console with interchangeable game cartridges. It is not the first time that classic NES games have been playable on Nintendo’s latest home console. In 2018, the company launched the Switch Online service, which allows players with an online subscription to play a selection of NES games. Unlike the World Championships game, Switch Online allows you to play the full versions of the 8bit games.
