Hay bales and car tires on fire

It was not only at Heerenveen that it was restless last night. On the A50 highway near Apeldoorn, the fire brigade briefly extinguished several fires. According to a spokeswoman for the security region, it concerned hay bales and car tires that were on fire.

According to Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information, protesting farmers threw ‘in great numbers’ hay bales into the verge of the road earlier in the evening and set them on fire.

Ships are still waiting in front of the bridge in the Prinses Margrietkanaal, the waterway between Lemmer and Delfzijl. Demonstrating farmers blocked the bridge at Gaarkeuken and left a heavy mat on it when they left. The mat weighs at least 3 tons and cannot simply be removed, Rijkswaterstaat reports.
