Feyenoord spent more than seven million on player agents and agents in the 2022/2023 season. This is evident from a report by the KNVB regarding payments to ‘intermediaries’ of Dutch professional clubs. The Rotterdam team therefore spent more on intermediaries than PSV, but as number two they are miles behind list leader Ajax.

The KNVB defines intermediaries as persons who are involved in ‘representing the interests of players and clubs in football’. During negotiations between clubs and players, these intermediaries often also receive a commission or other amount of money from the club in question. At Feyenoord, this was the case last season with no fewer than 33 players from the main squad and the youth academy. With regard to payments to player agents and managers, the Stadium Club had costs of 7,019,614 euros in the championship year.

This means Feyenoord occupies second place in the report of the Dutch Football Association and remains well ahead of PSV. With a total of 4,918,000 euros, the leader of the Eredivisie only spent just under five million on intermediaries. The absolute champion in this ranking is not entirely surprising from Amsterdam. Although Ajax has not performed great on the field in the last two seasons, it is still the club that spends the most. In the capital, 15,354,310 disappeared into the pockets of intermediaries last season, more than double that of Feyenoord.

AZ is also making a significant contribution with a total expenditure of 4,810,370. The original top four of the Netherlands therefore have by far the largest share in the total amount of 40,716,346 euros that Dutch professional clubs paid to intermediaries in the 2022/2023 season.
