Feyenoord still does not have a fully fit selection against FC Utrecht. In the first months of 2024, Calvin Stengs, Justin Bijlow and Gernot Trauner, among others, suffered an injury that will keep them sidelined for several weeks. During the press conference on Friday afternoon, Slot explains how things are going with the recovery of his strongholds.

Slot previously announced that Stengs and Bijlow were hoping for a return to the international match. In any case, this does not yet apply to the latter for the time being. “I have often said that the final phase of a rehabilitation is difficult to predict. Justin is currently still in the final phase of a rehabilitation that will continue when he joins the group, but is not yet with the group. is still training separately, but is doing goalkeeping again. That is already a nice step.”

Stengs already joined group training again this week, but is a doubt for the match against Utrecht due to a new injury. “Calvin is already training with us. This has also become visible in the public training. But he dropped out today because his ankle was bothering him after a tap on it. That is something new, so we will We also have to see how that goes.”

Slot secretly hopes to have access to the attacking midfielder next Sunday. “If he had not had problems with his ankle today, he would have been in the selection on Sunday anyway. I still have the hope that he will, but that is mainly dependent on the ankle and not so much dependent on the knee.”

“We all saw how he went off and we also saw how that knee ended up. He was sad and feared the worst, like many with him,” Slot continues. He is happy for Stengs that he seems to have recovered so quickly from the apparently nasty knee injury. “When you are back on the field training with the group so quickly, it is a huge relief. What I understand from him is that he really feels his knee well. Of course, he went through a phase in which he had a lot of had to play matches in which we had to try to manage his knee well. Now he has been forced to have a number of days off, because he of course got injured. He has slowly built it up again, so it feels very good for him now and let’s hope we can keep it that way.”

Trauner and Jahanbakhsh
The Feyenoord trainer also includes Trauner and Jahanbakhsh in his injury round: “Gernot is not yet ready to train with the group. Jahanbakhsh will train in April and we may expect to be back with the group next week or the week after. He also participated in another exercise with the group today. So he is really close to training with the group again. But as we all know, especially if you have been out for a while, what kind of Ali What is not too bad is that the longer you are out, the longer you need to train with the group and really be ready to compete again. But in any case it is a good first step that he has participated in another first exercise with the group.
