Victoria Pelova won the League Cup with the Arsenal players on Sunday. This happened after a teammate collapsed during the final against Chelsea.

Frida Maanum fell to the ground during injury time of regular playing time, without a ball or opponent nearby. Medical staff then rushed to the midfielder. The crowd in Wolverhampton fell silent.

After seven minutes, Maanum was carried off the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask around her mouth. Arsenal later reported that the Norway international is conscious, can talk and is in a stable condition.

The match has now been resumed. Because no goal was scored in regular playing time, extra time followed. Stina Blackstenius crowned herself the heroine at Arsenal. She scored the 1-0 four minutes before the end.

For Arsenal, the League Cup win is the first prize of the season. The club is also still in the race for the national title, although the deficit to leader Manchester City is no less than nine points. Arsenal have played one match less.

Pelova completed 120 minutes in the final against Chelsea. Vivianne Miedema was in the stands. The all-time top scorer of the Dutch national team is still recovering from an injury to her knee, on which she recently underwent surgery. She will therefore also be missing from the Dutch squad next week.

Frida Maanum maakt het naar omstandigheden goed nadat ze op het veld in elkaar was gezakt.
