Van Gerwen advances to the quarter-finals in Munich and meets Wattimena | Darts

Michael van Gerwen convincingly reached the quarter-finals of the German Darts Grand Prix on Monday. The three-time world champion was much too strong for Joe Cullen in Munich: 6-0.

The 34-year-old Van Gerwen started his match against Cullen very strongly. The Brabander won the first leg with an impressive 156 finish and made the first break with a 126 finish.

Even after that, Van Gerwen was very strong on his doubles and left Cullen without a chance. ‘Mighty Mike’ recorded an average of 102.48 per three arrows and made use of 75 percent of his chances on doubles. Cullen did not get further than an average of 83.93.

In the quarter-finals, Van Gerwen will meet his fellow countryman Jermaine Wattimena later in the day. ‘The Machine Gun’ surprised global number seven Dave Chisnall 6-5.

Danny Noppert also qualified for the quarter-finals on Monday at the expense of Rob Cross (6-2). The Frisian had to acknowledge his superiority in world champion Luke Humphries: 2-6.
