Lorena Wiebes won the Scheldeprijs for the fourth year in a row on Wednesday. The Dutch top sprinter from SD Worx-Protime was in a class of her own during the bunch sprint in Schoten, Belgium.

The 25-year-old Wiebes took the lead in the bunch sprint 300 meters from the finish and did not relinquish the lead. Her compatriot Charlotte Kool came second. Wiebes’ former teammate kept Martina Fidanza behind her. The Italian came third.

The Dutch Anneke Dijkstra and the Finnish Wilma Aintila were the leaders for a long time in the ride over 131 kilometers. Just over a kilometer before the finish, the pair were caught up, after which the preparations for the sprint could begin. Wiebes completed her team’s work competently.

Wiebes won the Scheldeprijs for the fourth year in a row. In 2021, 2022 and 2023 she was also the best in the Belgian one-day race, which is seen as the unofficial World Cup for sprinters because of the flat course.

Earlier this season, Wiebes won Gent-Wevelgem for the first time in her cycling career. She also won the Ronde van Drenthe and the GP Oetingen this year. In February she started her season with two stage wins in the UAE Tour.

The men will also be in action today in the Scheldeprijs. The riders left Terneuzen at 1:15 PM and are expected at the finish around 5:25 PM. The Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen is one of the contenders for the win.
