In addition to Graham Potter and Erik ten Hag, Francesco Farioli is also on Ajax’s list of possible candidates for the head coach position in Amsterdam. Club watcher Mike Verweij reports this The Telegraph Friday morning. Farioli currently works at OGC Nice, where he has a contract until mid-2025.
Farioli is not considered the most important candidate within Ajax. Verweij repeats that Alex Kroes, the general manager who returns as technical director after his suspension, has Ten Hag at the top of his wish list. Ten Hag was already at the helm of Ajax between 2018 and 2022 and experienced great successes in Amsterdam. Under his leadership, the club became Dutch champion three times and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019. Ten Hag crowned his work in Amsterdam with a move to Manchester United.

Ten Hag had an excellent first season in England, including the final victory of the League Cup and qualification for the main tournament of the Champions League. But in his second season, disappointments follow each other in rapid succession. The big question at the moment is whether Ten Hag will continue to be active at Manchester United after the summer and that is also a big question mark for Ajax. “It is an open secret within Ajax that Kroes sees the perfect new Ajax coach in Ten Hag and wants to wait. However, the former successful coach of Ajax – perhaps against his better judgment – still has the idea of being at the helm of Manchester United next season”writes Verweij.
If Ten Hag definitively says ‘no’ to a quick return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA or Ajax switches before then, according to Verweij, Farioli and Potter will be out of the picture. The latter is said to have rejected an initial offer from Ajax. The Englishman has the advantage over Farioli that he is currently without a club and therefore no transfer fee has to be paid by Ajax. Farioli has been the head coach of OGC Nice since last summer. He previously worked at Karagümrük and Alanyaspor in Turkey. OGC Nice is the current number five in France. With four games to go, the gap to the first Champions League spot is five points.
