Hedwiges Maduro appears to be exchanging his role as assistant coach at Ajax for the head coachship at Almere City. The Almeerder native must succeed Alex Pastoor at the Eredivisie club, who will leave after this season.

According to it A.D, VI and the NOS negotiations with Maduro are at an advanced stage. Almere City has been looking for a new trainer since Pastoor announced last week that he will leave the Yanmar Stadium next summer.

The 39-year-old Maduro was previously also active at Almere City. Last season he was Pastoor’s right hand. Together they led the team to a historic promotion to the Eredivisie.

Last summer, Maduro was appointed as assistant to head coach Maurice Steijn at Ajax. After the dramatic start to the season and Steijn’s subsequent departure, Maduro briefly took over. When John van ‘t Schip was brought in, Maduro became assistant again.

Almere City is having a good first season in the Eredivisie. With four rounds to go, the club is twelfth.
