Robin van Persie’s contract with Feyenoord expires next summer. The current trainer of Feyenoord Under 18 is high on the list at SC Heerenveen to become the new head coach according to various media. In conversation with Sander de Kramer at RTV Rijnmond the former international indicates that he is not sure whether he will ever become coach of Feyenoord 1.
Van Persie aims to become head coach, but not necessarily at Feyenoord. “Being head coach at a very nice club,” begins the 40-year-old former player of Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United, among others. “Feyenoord is of course my club, but I don’t know whether that will happen. When that will be depends on so many factors.”
The 102-time international of the Dutch national team describes his goals in a special way. “I’m not going to pin a time on it, or even whether it ever happens. Here too, the purity of coaching is leading. That involves an incredible number of steps. I am now taking those steps and then the moment follows like a shadow “To take that moment as the first goal is not the order in my view.”
According to the current youth trainer, the right way is to first become a good enough trainer yourself. “The order is that I first become the top. I am on my way and I am not there yet. When I am, that shadow will be added. Then the moment has come, I think,” he concludes in the program Gerse Guests.
