The option in the contract of former Feyenoord player Jens Toornstra has been exercised by FC Utrecht and this means that the midfielder will also be active at the highest level in the Netherlands in the 2024/2025 season. Toornstra still makes a fit impression in the current season with his hard work mentality.

Toornstra started playing football at TAVV in Ter Aar and Alphense Boys in Alphen aan den Rijn, after which he was picked up by ADO Den Haag in the summer of 2009. During the winter transfer period of the 2012/2013 season, FC Utrecht took over the attacking midfielder from the Hague club. In more than a year and a half, the playmaker has played 48 Eredivisie matches for the Domstedelingen, in which he scored 18 times.

In mid-2014, Toornstra was sold to Feyenoord, where he scored a total of 65 times in 313 official matches. In the 2016/2017 season, Toornstra became national champion with the Rotterdam team, in 2018 and 2019 he won the Johan Cruijff Shield with Feyenoord and in both the 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 seasons the midfielder won the TOTO KNVB Cup in Rotterdam. In addition, Jens Toornstra played 4 international matches for the Dutch national team, before making his return to FC Utrecht in the summer of 2022.

The 35-year-old Toornstra has now played a total of 122 official matches on behalf of the Domstedelingen and his tally of professional matches played stands at 557.

“Jens is one of the most experienced professionals on the Dutch fields. He knows the ins and outs of the Eredivisie better than anyone and is now just as fit as during his first period at FC Utrecht. His statistics are downright impressive,” he said. says Technical Director Jordy Zuidam of FC Utrecht on the club website. “Jens has a great track record, but always puts himself fully at the service of the team: a team player, who is still valuable to the team every week, on and off the field. He is also an example for the younger players. We We are happy that we will also have him available next season.”
