Valentijn Driessen believes Ajax transfer Weghorst has no chance

--

FC Twente hopes to attract Wout Weghorst this summer and the striker in turn hopes to make the switch to FC Twente. Both parties have been flirting with each other for some time, but there has been no final agreement yet. This has everything to do with Burnley FC, the club where Weghorst is under contract until mid-2025. He will have to compromise, because the current market value of seven million euros is not something the Tukkers can afford.

Weghorst was also the subject of discussion today during De Telegraaf’s Kick-Off podcast. Driessen thinks it would be a good move for FC Twente. “Van Wolfswinkel is not the youngest and Weghorst is not the youngest. If you have both of them, that is only a bonus. Especially if you have to enter the preliminary round of the Champions League.”

His colleague and Ajax watcher Mike Verweij thinks the same. “If such a player offers himself, if such an invitation comes, then you should always accept it. Weghorst always goes at 120 kilometers per hour and I think he will become a sensation in the Premier League.” Would he also be a reinforcement for Ajax or Feyenoord? Driessen thinks so. “But I think he wants to go to FC Twente very specifically,” Verweij adds. Driessen: “And he is a principled man of course. We experienced that during corona time. When he says: I want to go to FC Twente. Then he wants to go to FC Twente and not to Ajax.”
