Things are going in the right direction for Jonas Vingegaard. The two-time Tour winner, who had a serious crash in the Tour of the Basque Country, was able to cycle outside for the first time. In a video on Visma | social media Lease a Bike tells the Dane to make it to the start of the upcoming Tour de France.

Vingegaard broke his collarbone and several ribs in a fall in the Tour of the Basque Country on April 4. He also suffered a collapsed lung and a bruise to his lungs. He was not released from hospital in Spain until April 16. Three weeks later he was able to complete his first training kilometers on the road again.

“This is the first time I’ve been outside on my bike again,” Vingegaard begins in the video. “It’s very nice to finally be able to cycle again and finally ride on the road again. I’m really looking forward to the next steps. I’m feeling good. It’s getting better every day. There are still some things I need to recover from, but it’s getting better and better.”

Tour de France
“Of course I hope to start in the Tour de France. We don’t yet know how my form will develop and how my recovery will continue, but I am doing everything I can to be in top form there,” Vingegaard concludes. This year’s Tour de France starts on June 29 in Italy. The opening stage goes from Florence to Rimini and immediately includes some climbing.
