The Dutch-style women’s team of VfL Wolfsburg won the DFB-Pokal for the tenth time in a row on Thursday. Partly thanks to a goal from Dutch international Dominique Janssen, Wolfsburg won 2-0 against national champion Bayern Munich.

After fourteen minutes, Wolfsburg broke the spell in the sold-out RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne after a nervous start. On a pass from Lena Oberdorf, Jule Brand scored with some luck. Bayern keeper Maria Luisa Grohs misjudged Brand’s long shot, after which the ball bounced past the goal line.

Less than fifteen minutes later, Bayern, which dreamed of the rare double after conquering the national title, was already facing a 2-0 deficit. From a corner, Janssen headed in flawlessly, with which the 110-time international scored her seventh goal of the season.

After the break, Bayern tried to tie the score through Lea Schüller and Klara Bühl, but their attempts flew wide. Wolfsburg, where Dutch international Lynn Wilms also had a starting place, continued to fight until the last minute and won the cup for the tenth time in a row. The Dutch Fenna Kalma (VfL Wolfsburg) and Jill Baijings (Bayern Munich) were on the bench for the entire match.

For the 29-year-old Janssen, her goal in the cup final is a special one. The central defender will leave Wolfsburg after five years after this season and hopes to return to England. The Limburg native played for Arsenal between 2015 and 2019, after which she switched to Wolfsburg.

Janssen has two more competition matches scheduled with Wolfsburg, where former FC Twente coach Tommy Stroot is at the helm. It is not yet known which club Janssen will leave for after this season.
